La Jolla's 92037 zip code runs from the tide pools at Bird Rock to the bluffs at Torrey Pines, and nearly all of it sits within reach of the salt spray. Railings along Coast Boulevard, the metal around La Jolla Cove and the Children's Pool, and the patio furniture at the restaurants on Prospect Street all show the same pattern: bubbling paint, rust bleeding from welds and hardware, and chalky faded color.

Up the hill, homes in La Jolla Shores and Muirlands deal with it too, just a little slower. Iron gates, pool fencing and outdoor lighting still need a finish that seals out moisture, not one that traps it underneath.

Salt air does its damage in the gaps. Paint and single-coat finishes leave pinholes at welds, edges and bolt holes. Moisture gets in, rust starts under the coating, and within a season or two it lifts off in sheets.

For La Jolla railings and gates we start by sandblasting every piece to bare metal so there is no old rust left to spread. The powder is applied electrostatically, which pulls it around edges and into welds that a brush or spray gun misses. After a full oven cure the coating is one continuous, hard layer with no solvents trapped inside. For exposed oceanfront pieces, ask about a primer plus top coat system for extra protection.
