Del Mar's 92014 zip code runs from the bluffs above Torrey Pines State Beach north to the San Dieguito Lagoon and the Del Mar Fairgrounds. In between are Seagrove Park, Powerhouse Park and the shops and restaurants of Del Mar Plaza, all within a few blocks of the water.

That closeness to the ocean is the whole story for metal. Salt spray settles on railings, outdoor furniture, light posts and gate hardware every day. Once the finish is breached at a weld or screw hole, rust spreads underneath and lifts the coating.

The Del Mar Fairgrounds brings in its own kind of metal work. Event furniture, display stands, barn and stall hardware and racing-season fixtures all spend time outside, and all of them need a finish that can be cleaned hard and still look sharp by opening day.

Outdoor furniture takes the worst of Del Mar weather. It sits in the sun, catches spray and gets dragged across pavers every day. Painted aluminum and steel chairs start to chalk, chip and rust within a couple of seasons.

We strip each piece, sandblast it to bare metal, and repair small pits before coating. The powder is applied electrostatically, so it wraps legs, welds and the undersides that brush-on paint never covers well. After a full oven cure, the finish is hard, UV-resistant and easy to clean. Restaurants and hotels can send pieces in rotation, so there is always seating on the patio.

For beach homes, the same process applies to glass-rail posts, deck stair stringers, light fixtures and outdoor shower frames. Anything aluminum or steel that sits in the spray will outlast its paint by years once it is sandblasted and powder coated.
